Overview

Day 01: Arrival in Makassar – Transfer to Sengkang (L, D)
Upon arrival at Hasanuddin Airport in Makassar, you will be met by our guide and transferred to Sengkang, a charming village once part of the former Bugis kingdom, located near Lake Tempe. Enjoy lunch en route. In the afternoon, weather and water levels permitting, take a motorized canoe across the lake to visit local fishermen families living in floating villages. If conditions are favorable, you may also witness a beautiful sunset over Lake Tempe. Dinner at a local restaurant and overnight in a hotel in Sengkang.
Note: Lake Tempe’s water levels drop significantly during the dry season, and boat trips may not be possible.

Day 02: Sengkang – Toraja (B, L, D)
After breakfast, visit a traditional silk weaving center, where Bugis women still spin and weave silk using age-old methods. Then head to a nearby hill for a panoramic view of Sengkang town. Continue the scenic drive to Toraja via Siwa and Palopo, passing through mountainous landscapes and lush highland scenery. Lunch is served along the route. Arrive in Rantepao, the cultural center of Toraja, by late afternoon. Dinner at a local restaurant and overnight at the hotel.

Day 03: Toraja Cultural Tour – Lemo, Nongnongan, Londa, Karuaya, Kete Kesu (B, L, D)
After breakfast, spend a full day exploring Tana Toraja’s unique cultural heritage. Visit Lemo, known for its cliffside graves and Tau Tau wooden effigies. Continue to Nongnongan to see the intriguing baby tree graves. Next, explore Londa, where the deceased rest in ancient rock tombs. Enjoy lunch at a local restaurant in Rantepao, followed by a visit to Karuaya for scenic views of the Toraja landscape. End the day with a short walk to Kete Kesu, one of the region’s oldest traditional villages, showcasing authentic Tongkonan ancestral homes and colorful rice barns. Dinner and overnight at the hotel.

Day 04: Highlands Trekking – Batutumonga & Weaving Villages (B, L, D)
After breakfast, depart for Timonbayo, where you'll admire expansive rice fields dotted with ancient megalithic stones. Continue to the burial cave at Lokomata, then proceed to Batutumonga for a soft trekking experience through Torajan villages and terraced hillsides, offering a deeper insight into the daily life of the Torajan people. Lunch will be served at a local restaurant in Batutumonga. In the afternoon, visit the megalithic site of Bori, then continue to Pallawa and Sa’dan Tubaranna, traditional villages known for their handwoven textiles. Return to your hotel for dinner and overnight stay.

Day 05: Toraja – Return to Makassar – Departure (B, L)
After breakfast and check-out, begin the return journey to Makassar. En route, stop at Puncak Lakawan for a coffee break and a final view of the highlands. Lunch will be enjoyed at a seafood restaurant in Pare-Pare. Continue to Hasanuddin Airport for your flight to the next destination.

Kindly Note:
Accommodation in Sulawesi, particularly outside major cities and in regency areas, is generally very basic and may not meet international standards in terms of comfort and service. In some remote areas, guests may stay in local homes with floor mattresses and shared bathrooms equipped with squat toilets. Many accommodations lack air conditioning and Wi-Fi, and bed sizes vary—most commonly offering queen-size beds. Most hotels are older, have not been recently renovated, and provide only simple facilities and breakfast. Travelers should be prepared for modest conditions and a culturally immersive experience.
