Overview

Day 1: Arrival in Makassar – Journey to Toraja (L, D)
Upon arrival at Hasanuddin International Airport in Makassar, you will be met by our representative. We then begin the scenic overland journey to Toraja, a drive of approximately 8–9 hours through picturesque Buginese villages known for their distinctive stilt houses. Along the way, we’ll make stops for photos and enjoy lunch at a seafood restaurant in the coastal town of Pare-Pare. In the afternoon, take in panoramic views from Puncak Lakawan, a highland viewpoint. Arrival in Rantepao, the heart of Toraja, is expected by late afternoon. Dinner and overnight stay at the hotel.

Day 2: Cultural Exploration of Toraja – Lemo, Nongnongan, Londa, Karuaya, Kete Kesu (B, L, D)
After breakfast, begin a full-day exploration of the fascinating Toraja culture. The first stop is Lemo, home to dramatic cliffside graves and rows of Tau Tau wooden effigies. Continue to Nongnongan, where you'll see the unique tradition of placing infants in living trees. The journey continues to Londa, where the deceased are placed in rock caves rather than buried. After lunch at a local restaurant in Rantepao, we’ll stop in Karuaya to enjoy stunning views of the Toraja landscape. From there, take a short walk to Kete Kesu, one of the oldest and most traditional Torajan villages, known for its preserved Tongkonan ancestral houses and ornately carved rice barns. Dinner and overnight at your hotel.

Day 3: Batutumonga Highlands, Soft Trekking & Weaving Villages (B, L, D)
Enjoy breakfast at the hotel before heading to Timonbayo, offering sweeping views of ancient megalithic stones scattered across rice fields. Continue to the burial site of Lokomata, followed by a scenic drive to Batutumonga for a short soft trekking experience through traditional villages and stunning highland scenery. Lunch will be served at a local restaurant in Batutumonga. In the afternoon, visit Bori, another important megalithic site, then continue to Pallawa and Sa’dan Tubaranna, local villages renowned as the weaving centers of Toraja. Return to your hotel for dinner and overnight stay.

Day 4: Return to Makassar – Departure (B, L)
After breakfast and hotel check-out, begin the return drive to Makassar. Stop for lunch in Pare-Pare before continuing directly to Hasanuddin Airport for your onward flight.

Accommodation in Sulawesi, particularly outside major cities, is generally very simple and may not meet international standards in terms of facilities or service. In some remote areas, guests may stay in local homes with basic amenities—such as mattresses on the floor and shared bathrooms with squat toilets. Many accommodations do not offer Wi-Fi or air conditioning, and bed sizes vary, with queen-size beds being the most common. Most hotels are older, have not been renovated, and provide only basic breakfasts. Guests are advised to be prepared for modest conditions and a culturally authentic experience.
